my birthday
I usually don't think of my birthday of being very special. If I were to rank important/ special days in a year:
- Halloween
- My cats' birthdays
- Christmas
- My partners birthday
- My birthday + my family's
However, to my partner, I think their ranking would be:
- Their birthday
- Christmas
- My birthday or Halloween?
- July 4th
- Our cats' birthdays
Secretly (or maybe not that secretly), I would roll my eyes when they said how their birthday was their #1 day of the year. After their last birthday celebration, I think I understood more why their birthday was so special to them.
We talked about how their birthday was this designated time of the year where all their friends would come together and have fun. They said it brought them the joy seeing their friends having fun together. This was kinda mind-blowing (or at least thought provoking lol) to me. Despite toiling away for most of their birthday celebration, my partner said they had a lot of fun and got a lot of happiness knowing their friends enjoyed their food and party.
Before this revelation to me, I always thought of birthdays revolving around the birthday person's enjoyment. Maybe if I look at birthdays from the my partner's view, I'll have a better opinion on my birthday.
Halloween is still forever going to be #1 day of the year though. Always.
